4 green sea turtles, Chelonia mydas, with yellow bodies and long flippers for swimming and 5-sided scutes on their shells with lime green flame outlines swirl together in green waters with a tie dye center on a white background in this marine sea turtle nature mandala. Sea turtles live around coral reefs and in brackish warm waters of the Pacific and Atlantic and Mediterranean seas. The shell, divided into the carapace on top and the plastron below, is made up of scutes or plates of protective armor. Unlike some of its land cousins, it cannot retract its head or flippers completely into its shell. From my book: Nature Mandalas Wonders of the Earth, Wind, and Sea (Schiffer Publishing 2016).
